My wife and I find ourselves in the middle of the journey to educate our brood of young'uns; and though the road is often a hard one, there are no regrets, only blessings.
I'd be remiss if I didn't say just a word or two to you who take on the education of your youth, as well as you students.
Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.
To the parents:
By virtue of you already taking it upon yourselves to educate your children, you're already demonstrating the resourcefulness and initiative that FHC seeks to foster and promote. The hope of this nation lies in God, as He works Sovereignly through the lives of parents...teaching their children through words and a life well-lived. To those of you who practice this daily, FHC says a heartfelt thanks...as if you needed thanks from anyone. In the words of the faithful servant, "I was only doing my duty."
I will continually be looking for ways Farm Hand's Companion can be of help to you and support you as you teach those whom God has placed in your home.
Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right.
Children, obey your parents in all things: for this is well pleasing unto the Lord.
To the youth:
Obedience is your job now. Ephesians says it's right; Colossians says it's pleasing to the Lord. Just as adults perform everything they do "unto the Lord", so do you also in the work of your hands...which, primarily at this point in your life...is learning.
As far as the farm part goes, even if you don't have room at your home for as little as a tomato plant in a bucket, the assets of resourcefulness and self-sufficiency are still yours for the taking...but only if you want them. I hope through the pages of this website as well as the FHC Show, you'll be stirred to envision a bigger picture for your life; not just how to build a chicken coop, or plant a garden...but to dream, face challenges, adapt, and succeed...and through all, to give glory to God.
It's been so good to hear from many of you parents how Farm Hand's Companion has helped or encouraged your efforts to home educate your youngsters. Some of you have even expressed to me how you're incorporating the FHC articles as well as the videos into your farm or homesteading unit studies! (Well, that just makes me want to help you even more! I've got some plans in mind for us home educators ... but I'm still thinking on the best way to go about it).
And while I'm thinking about it, thanks to all of you that have utilized your social media platforms to link, share, pin, or blog about Farm Hand's Companion and its usefulness to the homeschool family who farms or homesteads! (as well as those of you who've just used good ole' fashioned word of mouth!)
Meanwhile, take a look at what several folks have said about Farm Hand's Companion as it relates to their home educating:
Your videos have made an excellent addition to our unit study of farms this month. I particularly like your philosophy of using what is at hand to make things work... There are a few homesteading videos out there, but not a lot, and I think your style would be well received by the homeschooling community, especially with the print on the screen (which is good for helping kids read). ... I absolutely love your storytelling, how you weave in history.
(By the way, take a look at Heather's blog which is a goldmine of homeschool info -- including a big old taste of farm livin' ... and who could ask for more! Give it a real good look over ... it's called The Blessings Pour Out)
Pa Mac, I am glad I found you're website. Thank you for the kind words about homeschooling. My wife and I love homeschooling and believe our children are benefiting more than my own schooling through the public school system ... I plan on using your website as an educational resource for me and my children. The humor you have employed to the videos will make it more enjoyable for my kids ... They love learning (so do I) ... May God bless you as you continue your work with this site.
We all really enjoy the videos, and even have used some of them in our homeschooling (Pythagorean's theorem on squaring corners). And we put it into practice when we built one of my son's blacksmith 'shack'.
I want to thank you for your kind and encouraging words to those of us who homeschool. Many times the primary home educator can feel very overwhelmed and under-appreciated, and to hear words like that is like giving a cool drink of water to a thirsty man lost at sea or in the desert. So, on behalf of all of those out there who home school, I thank you. Keep the educational & entertaining videos coming -- we'll be watching. May God richly bless you.
I stumbled across these videos and my entire family ended up watching it and loving it. We are anxiously waiting for more videos. We are a homeschooling family and we were all laughing and learning...I'm telling everyone about them!!!
If you or your family have enjoyed The Farm Hand's Companion website or show ... I'd enjoy hearing about it! (It might even give me an idea or two on how to make an even better resource for the homeschooler!) Feel free to drop me a line by email and let me know. Also, if you're using The Farm Hand's Companion videos or website in a unique way in the training or homeschooling of your kids I'd love to hear about that, too.
Well, just one last thing I want to say: If FHC is only ever the slightest of help to any of you other folks who home educate (as well as you students), please know that FHC salutes, respects, and admires you. You who know and love the Sovereign God and His Christ and realize the importance and responsibility He has placed on the family are the seeds of hope God plants in a nation. May those seeds be watered by His grace.
